Prices based on the wholesale price of energy
With Agile Octopus, you get access to half-hourly energy prices, tied to wholesale prices and updated daily. So when wholesale electricity prices drop, your bills can too – particularly if you can shift your daily electricity use outside of peak times.
The UK's first ever ‘Plunge Pricing’
Across the UK, whenever more electricity is generated than consumed, energy prices fall – very occasionally, to the point where prices drop below zero.
Agile Octopus introduces Plunge Pricing – a world first that lets you take advantage of these negative price events, and get paid for the electricity you use. You'll receive alerts whenever prices drop below zero, and you can use our Agile API to program your smart devices.
Price Cap Protect means your prices won't go above 100p/kWh
When more electricity is being used than generated, wholesale prices rise. Price spikes can be short-lived, but they do happen. Agile Octopus includes Price Cap Protect, which ensures you'll never pay more than 100p / kWh for your electricity (this is around 3x higher than the average UK energy tariff in 2023).

Octopus Agile with GivEnergy Battery Storage - How does it work?
Agile Octopus is a cutting edge innovation created by Octopus's unique technology, making use of your smart meter to change your energy price throughout the day to reflect wholesale rates.
Between 4-8pm every day (usually nearer 4pm), your unit rates are updated for the next 24 hours, based on the wholesale market rates.
As you use electricity we'll use the half-hourly data from your smart meter to calculate your charges.
A 45.07p daily subscription covers costs including metering, distribution, and other fixed costs.

Octopus Agile is a beta product. Some things may not work the first time, and installations and processes may take longer than we'd like. Third party tech like In-home Displays won't always work, and on occasion data issues with smart meters can take significant time to fix or prevent things from working at all.
If you're cool with this, work with us to make world-changing energy tariffs a reality. You will always be able to switch to a fairly priced standard tariff at any time.
