Intelligent Octopus Flux with GivEnergy Battery Storage - How does it work?

Intelligent Octopus Flux is a smart import and export tariff optimised to give you the best rates for consuming and selling your energy.

Compared to our clever-but-not-quite-as-smart Flux tariff, Intelligent customers could save £100 or more each year.

‘Intelligent Octopus Flux’ (IOF) offers the same rate for both importing and exporting electricity, with a 21-hour off peak window priced 10% below Octopus Energy’s standard variable tariff ‘Flexible Octopus’ and a three-hour ‘peak’ window between 4pm and 7pm*.

This next generation tariff is powered by Kraken, Octopus’ proprietary tech platform, and optimises your GivEnergy battery storage and solar panels to better use green electrons when they are abundant and cheap.

Import rates are even lower than standard Flux. We’ll make sure you battery charges when the price is lowest and the grid is greenest.

A peak rate between 16:00 - 19:00, our optimum time to discharge your battery and export surplus energy back to the grid, don’t worry we’ll take care of this.

Octopus can connect to second generation (SMETS2) meters, and some types of first generation (SMETS1) smart meters. If not already an Octopus customer it can take up to 14 days to activate the connection.

How easy is it to setup my GivEnergy Battery to work with Intelligent Octopus Flux?

Setting your GivEnergy battery storage system to work with Intelligent Octopus Flux is as simple as toggling a couple of settings on in the GivEnergy app then the Octopus Kraken engine takes care of the rest.

Intelligent Octopus Flux FAQ

Intelligent Octopus Flux is a beta product. Some things may not work the first time, and installations and processes may take longer than we'd like. Third party tech like In-home Displays won't always work, and on occasion data issues with smart meters can take significant time to fix or prevent things from working at all.

If you're cool with this, work with us to make world-changing energy tariffs a reality. You will always be able to switch to a fairly priced standard tariff at any time.

How does GivEnergy work with Intelligent Octopus Flux?

How long does it take to switch to Intelligent Octopus flux?

Am I eligible to join Intelligent Octopus Flux?

Will I lose my feed-in tariff (FIT) on my existing solar system?

Firstly, there is no requirement to switch your FiT generation contract to Octopus.

Moving to Intelligent Octopus Flux means:

Generation Tariff - your payments for energy generation will remain the same. You will not lose your generation tariff (and it should equate to the majority of your FiT income anyway).

Export Tariff - you will need to permanently opt-out of 'deemed export' payments. Instead, you'll receive the Intelligent Octopus Flux export rate (which varies depending on your location) for every kWh actually exported, as measured by your smart meter.

If you receive FiT export payments from a supplier other than Octopus, we'll let you know when you need to contact them to cancel them. Once confirmed, we'll switch you to Octopus Flux.

If you leave Intelligent Octopus Flux and / or Octopus Energy your 'Generation Tariff' will remain the same and your 'export tariff' will be paid at the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) rate offered by your new tariff / new supplier.
